My book, How to Do Things with Stories, is all about the ways that stories influence people. Romantic Epistemology (12pm-1pm) (The Forum)
Host: @DaystarEld
What do we think we know about romance, and why do we think we know it?
I'm a marriage and family therapist who has spent years helping couples work through all sorts of thorny questions around romance and sex, and often find that a lot of the most helpful work starts with noticing the ways our cultures and communities influence our thoughts and feelings around dating and relationships.
I started doing this "class" at the rationality summer camps I teach at and they're often great fun and of huge value to the participants, so I figured vibecamp would also enjoy it. I tend to do a lot of Q&A during these, but it's not meant to be a lecture, so whether you feel like you have a lot to say or a lot to learn on the topic, everyone's welcome!

3:30PM
Jargon in the world of Defense Intellectuals (3:30-4:30pm) (The Hearth)
Host: Keller Scholl (@kellerscholl)
In 1984-1986, Carol Cohn immersed herself in the world of men who made nuclear policy, and wrote compellingly about how “the better I got at engaging in this discourse, the more impossible it became for me to express my own ideas, my own values.” Often, we imagine new language and terminology can only improve our understanding of the world, since we could always abandon it. I want people to talk about both Cohn’s paper and their own experiences with learning new language with results that weren’t purely positive.

Possible dances include tango, East Cost swing, salsa, bachatta, rumba, waltz, tango and hustle. Look forward to an hour of dance instruction with plenty of time for supervised practice. Partners will switch regularly to facilitate learning and camaraderie, but couples may choose to stay with their significant other. Please reach out to @dancinghorse16 to help DJ or instruct.

You'll learn how to practice loving kindness, and how to do so while dancing. Then, we'll kick off a dance party, with the intention of doing loving kindness practice as friends dancing together to good music. Practicing loving kindness during the dance party is encouraged, but not required - and besides, just dancing and having a good time is already a form of loving kindness. Please reach out to @tasshinfogleman to help with DJ needs.
Descent Into Dance Hell (Class) (6:30-8pm) (Town Hall)
Host: Aella (@Aella_girl)
Are you afraid of dancing? Do you have no idea how to move your body? Want to join a weird, experimental descent into dance hell where nobody looks good and grace doesn't matter? We'll start with some technical instruction for good dance basics and see how we can connect those basics to raw expression, and gradually morph into a full-blown, but very weird, dance thing. (This class is flexible; you can engage with it how you want, even if it's "lying still on the floor the entire time", and will probably be fun even if you are a good dancer)
