Media Consent Policy

Summary of our media consent policy: if you don't have permission to take or post a photo of someone, don't!

Vibecamp runs on a consent-first approach to photos and video: if you don't have permission to take or post a picture of someone, don't! For those who appreciate specifics and edge-cases, read below:

Taking photos & video

  1. You can take pictures of yourself, of the natural beauty of Ramblewood, and of anybody who explicitly consents to being photographed, in any location that isn’t designated as a no-camera zone.
    1. You can even livestream yourself and consenting participants, but we recommend you use this ability sparingly – Vibecamp is a rare opportunity to take online friendships offline, so stay in the moment as much as you can.
    2. This means no candids of people who haven’t explicitly consented to being photographed beforehand.
  2. If you take a picture in which other people are visible in the background, they must be unidentifiable. (e.g., they’re so far away and/or out-of-focus that their individual features are not recognizable, including things like tattoos; their back is turned etc).
    1. If somebody asks to see a picture in which they may appear in the background, show it to them. If they’re identifiable and ask you to delete or crop the photo, do it immediately.

Posting & tagging

  1. You’re welcome to post media (photographs, audio, video) of yourself at the event. If you want to post media that includes anybody else, get their consent first.
    1. If you want to post a group picture, you may block out the faces of anybody who asks to remain anonymous.
    2. If the main subjects of a photograph consent to being posted, but a crowd is visible in the background, it may be wise to blur or crop out the crowd. Exercise caution and discretion to avoid violating anybody’s privacy (or having to delete your post!)
  2. If anybody who is visible in any media you’ve posted asks you to delete it, you must delete it within 24 hours, even if they previously consented to being posted.
    1. This includes people who are in the background but not easily identified, so please apply the same care to them.
  3. Only tag people in your posts if they explicitly consent to being tagged. (Some anons are fine being photographed and posted, but do not want it linked to their account. Make no assumptions.)

Professional film crews

  1. Sometimes, a professional camera crew will be permitted to film at Vibecamp.
    1. They will always wear clearly identifiable gear, and we will announce their presence at the start of camp so that you know what they look like.
    2. Specific events during which the crew will film close-ups of participants and audience members will be announced in advance. Attending those events is consenting to appearing in livestreams, B-roll footage, or background shots that may be seen by a public audience.
    3. Outside of those events, all professional film crews will only take pictures or videos of you with your consent. (This is even stricter than what we ask of attendees: unlike fellow campers, the professionals aren’t permitted to take candids or video footage in which you could appear distant and blurry in the background.)
    4. If the crew asks to interview you, you are free to decline. If you agree, they’ll provide written documents outlining the terms, and you are responsible for making an informed decision about your participation.

No-camera zones

  1. The Sanctuary Tent will be a no-camera zone. Don’t take any pictures or photos inside the Sanctuary. (If any attendees would like to spearhead another no-camera/ quiet reflection zone, we encourage you to do so!)
