QUESTIONS
I have a question that isn't on this list!
GENERAL
What is vibeclipse?
We create opportunities for ambitious, creative, and friendly people to discover the beauty that they can create together in person. We also revel in merging the mystical with the mechanical. What could be better than teaching a sage physics or a physicist how to feel their soul? And what event would be better suited to that than an Eclipse?
When is vibeclipse?
April 5-April 8th, 2024
Where is vibeclipse?
We're going to a familiar campground outside of Austin Texas. The campground has asked that we not mention it by name or tag them on social media.
Who is going to vibeclipse?
We are going to try our hand at curating the vibes for vibeclipse through referral links. We are slowly rolling out invitations to attend, along with links to refer a few friends, to people we feel like vibe well (e.g. they collaborate easily, welcome dissenting viewpoints, and are fully present).
That said, we probably missed some people with immaculate vibes. We will begin rolling out applications for such people soon.
Over time, we'd like to experiment with other ways of implementing webs of trust, so if you want to help us with that, please reach out to Brooke!
TRANSPORTATION
How do I get to vibeclipse?
It's roughly a 90 minute drive from Austin Texas, and you are certainly welcome to drive yourself. Alternatively, we are chartering buses from AUS (Austin-Bergstrom International Airport) to camp on Friday and back again on Monday. If you'd like to take the bus, the fee is $60.00 per passenger. All bus tickets are round-trip.
Why do buses cost more this time?
Previously we've baked the transportation cost into the general ticket price. The $5 fee for vibecamp 2 covered a fraction of our costs, so the non-bus people were subsidizing the bus riders. That didn't seem fair, so this time were putting the cost of buses on the people who take the buses. Feel free to check us on this, but as of November, the price is still significantly under renting a car (which will be difficult, it's a high demand weekend) or getting an uber (it's a long drive).
SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS
Can I sleep in my car?
No.
Can I get a cabin with my friends?
Yes! We highly recommend organizing your own cabin. We're working out the precise details for claiming a cabin for your group, but please start thinking about it. (Otherwise we'll do some sort of RNG assignment thing).
How big are the cabins?
Roughly 16 beds per cabin. (It varies).
Is there bedding? Towels? Toiletries?
The beds are thin and slightly smaller than twin size. You can rent sleeping bags/pillows from us if you like. You're on your own for towels, toothbrushes, soap, toothpaste etc.
Where can I safely store my stuff?
Neither the site nor vibecamp llc offer secured storage so pack accordingly. We don't expect theft or damage to be an issue, but it's still probably a bad idea to bring anything irreplaceable.
FOOD
Are meals provided?
Yes! At specific times provided by the camp.
How are you dealing with food restrictions?
When you buy a ticket there will be a place to indicate vegetarian/vegan or if you have any of the most common food allergies so we can make arrangements. If your allergy is not on the list, you can message us.
Can I bring my own food?
You cannot cook your own food and we won't have a way to refrigerate it either, but otherwise you can absolutely bring it. Just make sure that anything you bring in is taken out with you. Especially any adult beverages.
ACTIVITIES
What is this camp waiver?
The camp has a number of potentially hazardous activities like a climbing wall, canoeing, and axe-throwing. They require all attendees to sign an activities waiver for liability reasons.
What events are occurring at vibeclipse?
The campground will provide some activities at designated times, but vibecamp has always been about what we bring to it. We're going to have a public schedule available here on vibe.camp sometime after December 1st which we will periodically update as attendees sign up to run events. We will stop updating the vibe.camp schedule around March 15th.
DURING vibeclipse, there will be several physical schedules posted around camp as well as a central message board with information on what's happening that day.
Can I sign up to lead my own event?
Yes! We will open event signups on December 1st. When we do, we will put a link here and as well as tweet it from the vibecamp twitter account.
How do I choose the time and location of my event?
You will be able to choose a time and location through our online event scheduler. Locations and equipment information will be provided there.
Are there noise restrictions for events?
Yes, this location is directly adjacent to a residential area so we have to keep it pretty quiet after 10 p.m.
Is there a deadline for signing up to lead my own event?
Only kind of. March 15th is the latest for getting an event onto our printed schedule or requesting us to cover any of your expenses. We fully expect some events to spring up spontaneously during vibeclipse.
Are you providing financial assistance for events?
Yes! We want cool stuff to happen at vibeclipse and we've set aside a small budget to make that happen. If you have an idea, put together an itemized list of everything you'd like to have. Please mark each item as MV (minimum viable to make it happen at all) QI (quality improvement) and SKY (if we could give you everything you wanted). Please email this list to colby@vibecamp.xyz after you have submitted your event to our online event scheduler.
What events are going to receive financial assistance?
We don't want to limit ourselves to a specific kind of event, the whole point of vibe-festivals is that you, the attendees, build it. We do want to be clear about where money is being allocated, so we will tweet about the mini-grants as we approve them and make the complete list available on vibe.camp after the event.
INTERNET & DATA
Is there wifi at vibeclipse?
No.
What's the data coverage like?
The location is relatively flat and close to a residential area, we expect cell service to be reliable in most of the camp.
PACKING
What should I bring to vibeclipse?
Check out this packing list. [LINK]
COST
Why does it cost so much?
We're doing our best to keep costs stable. Cabin tickets are cheaper than they were at the second vibecamp and we're re-using our bedding rental prices. The only cost that went noticeably up were the buses.
Can I get a discount/financial aid?
There will be a limited number of discounted tickets available. Right now we are trusting you to only buy a discounted ticket if you cannot afford the standard ticket pricing.
Can I buy a ticket for a friend?
We are using a referral code system for vibeclipse. Each code allows you to purchase up to two tickets. A small number of attendees to previous vibevents were given extra codes to give away. Otherwise, keep an eye out for our future updates, we plan on adding the option to apply to attend soon.
Is there a discounted price for children?
Great question! We are working with the venue to get it answered.
Can I bring my pet(s) to vibeclipse?
No. We love animals, but we can't bring them here.
What if I have to cancel? Do I get my money back?
Most of it, yes! We have decided to no longer facilitate a secondary market. For vibeclipse, we are going to experiment with a 10% cancellation fee if you cancel prior to March 15th. After that point, we have to pay the venue for you regardless of whether or not you show up.
When do I have to buy a ticket?
We have to confirm our headcount by March 15th, but we are planning on giving out more referral links than the 600 cabin beds that we can sell. Keep an eye on our twitter account (@vibecamp_ ) for progress updates.
Where do I buy a ticket?
For this event, we're experimenting with a basic web of trust by sending out referral links! We're going to start with the volunteers from the last event as our first group of seed people, and then slowly send out more from there. The thing that makes vibecamp truly special are the people, and we want to maintain the existing culture as much as possible as we grow. However, we do want to remain open to new people, so we also have an application form here (link is under construction).
SOCIAL
Are there going to be pre- or post- vibeclipse gatherings?
Almost certainly, yes! The first and second vibecamp saw people gathering at parks and airbnb's for up to a week before and after the "official" event. We love that it's becoming a tradition.
That said, these pre and post parties are yours to create, not ours to manage. We created a discord channel that you can use to coordinate, but from there it's all on you! Feel free to form a group airbnb, coordinate an little airbnb village, and share your own Austin event ideas! You can even be a hero and create a shared schedule/calendar!
Where can I get in touch with other attendees?
Join the discord.
